Glyfz Frequently Asked Questions
Why buy images when I can find them for free?
If you search around the web you can find free toolbar images however they are often incomplete and of varying quality so you end up using a number of different sets in different styles. Importantly you can't always be sure of who owns the copyright and therefore it may be illegal to use them in your applications.
Why buy Office icons when I can rip them out of the programs?
There are a number of reasons including the Office icons can only legally be used when creating Office solutions. Not to mention the time it takes to rip and chop up all those images.
Have you any samples I can download?
Yes, download the Glyfz sampler for a selection of our icons.
Why do the BMP icons have a pink background?
As the BMP format doesn't support transparency, except the little used 32bit variant, the color of the bottom left pixel is used to represent the transparency color i.e. all pink pixels will become transparent. Pink, actually fuchsia #ff00ff, is used as it's not normally used in images. To make it easier to view the images the Glyfz Viewer is available to customers that displays them without the pink background.
Do I need a Glyfz license per developer?
You need a Glyfz license for each developer working on code containing the Glyfz icons, in the same way as you would with a third party component.
Can I modify the icons?
Yes you may modify them in any way you see fit.
Can I distribute or sell icons I've modified?
The modified icons still fall under the Glyfz license agreement so could only be used and distributed in ways set out by that agreement. This means, for example, modified images couldn't be sold or generally distributed.
Can I distribute the icons with my source code?
Not unless the persons receiving the source code also own the relevant Glyfz licenses.
Can the icons be used in an open source project?
Only if every developer has the relevant Glyfz licenses, so for what is normally considered to be open source projects, no.
Are there any discounts?
There are site and enterprise discounts available. A site license covers all developers of an organisation at a single physical location, enterprise licenses cover all developers within an organisation regardless of location.
